The title of a recent academic article from Fu et al. (2026), “Everyone’s using it, but no one is allowed to talk about it”: College students’ experiences navigating the higher education environment in a generative AI world,” perfectly encapsulates the culture of shame, fear, and secrecy around AI that exists at many campuses, including Lewis & Clark. This session will draw on insights from a qualitative analysis of the AI Community Dialogues to help participants better understand the culture of AI at Lewis & Clark. In addition, this session will offer participants practical ideas and strategies for fostering an AI culture grounded in openness, curiosity, listening, learning, collaboration, and critical reflection.
